Not too much to report here: I’ve spent this week lesson planning and doing some more exploring of Kunming. It’s gotten cold this week all of a sudden; I’m hoping spring will come back soon! (I’ve been really spoiled here with all the amazing weather till now)
I’m looking forward to being back in school on Monday, but a little nervous about teaching again too after the long break I’ve had. Lesson planning has gone well, but I never really know until I’m actually teaching if the lesson will be successful or not. It’s easy for my goal in teaching to be to look good as a teacher, especially when I’m being observed, but I really want my first goal to be for the kids to learn and grow through what I teach. I want to keep that in mind as I’m back in the classroom, knowing that I don’t need to go exactly by my lesson plans all the time. I’m definitely learning more about how to be flexible through teaching, and through life in China in general.
This week I’ll be teaching Bible, grammar, spelling, and reading. On Thursday, I’ll also be introducing a unit on research writing that I’ve been working on planning with Grace, the other fifth grade teacher. Wow, that’s a lot of English teaching!
