After 23 hours I made it to China! I really had fun on the trip (too much excitement to sleep!) I had a window seat on the flight from DC to Seoul, Korea. We flew north to get there, almost over the north pole. Probably the best view I had was seeing the sunrise over the mountains of Siberia: it was beautiful! I had a lot of time to read and write and think during the trip, and it was really a blessing to have that time to be still after my crazy couple of days getting ready to go. I had a lot of fun in Seoul airport, trying Korean food and exploring. J On the flight to Kunming, I think I was the only westerner on the plane. I didn’t have a window seat, but the flight had its memorable moments (like when the flight attendant announced she was coming around to collect our “helicopters”, instead of our headphones!)
Kunming airport was tiny and I waited there for my luggage for awhile. When it finally came, I walked outside and was so glad to see Eric Rodgers there waiting for me. We took a taxi to their house (along with 3 other people who came along for the ride!) I couldn’t see much in the dark, but from what I could see the city looked really beautiful- I was very excited to see palm trees all over the place! I arrived at the Rodgers exhausted but excited and was surprised to see a dozen roses on the table for me sent especially by my “secret” admirer J
