Yesterday was supposed to be my first day at school, but I woke up at 2am and felt really sick (just a cold) so I ended up staying home and resting. I felt bad to miss my first day, but Mr. Pye understood and said the students prd for me.
I woke up feeling a lot better today, so I went to school. It’s about a 10 minute bus ride from the Rodgers’ house, then another 10 minutes to walk up to the school. Mr. Mayfield, the school principle met me at the school gate and gave me a quick tour. I think I met most of the teachers and staff today, but probably only remember a few of their names. I think I’ll have to reintroduce myself a few times before they stick. I had such a great greeting in Mr. Pye’s class. The kids did their “good morning song” for me- complete with dancing and puppets. That’s how they start the day every morning. I’m gonna have to tape it on my camera sometime, because it’s so fun to watch J I mostly observed today, but also got to introduce myself more and give my testimony to the kids. They really are a good class, Mr. Pye says he has almost no discipline problems. I loved observing and got so many ideas for teaching in the future. Mr. Pye is an amazing teacher: it’s very clear how much he loves his students and teaching them. He’s been so helpful and great to me too. All the free time he had today (that he usually spends lesson planning) he left open to talk to me and for me to ask questions- which I had a lot of! I’m so thankful to be at KIA and in the 5th grade class! I know it’ll be stretching, but I already feel comfortable with the class and know I’m in the right place.
