These pictures are from my new location: I moved in with 3 other elementary teachers to be closer to the school- now it’s a 5 minute walk instead of a 15 minute bus ride (plus the time waiting for the bus) away! This is a HUGE apartment complex- it feels like a small city in itself with over 20,000 people living here! It’s really pretty and well kept as you can see- complete with tropical flowers!
This week so far has been… challenging. I jumped ahead a bit and now I’m teaching everything except for math and science (which I’m adding next week). I’ve been teaching basically the whole day, though, because in the afternoon when one of the fifth grade classes is doing science, the other is doing social studies. So I’ve been teaching that this week. Social studies has been my hardest class to teach yet. I’m teaching on the events after WWI that led to WWII. There are no books for social studies for my class, so that makes it difficult because I’ve had to do a lot of research to know enough about the subject to teach! Today was mostly discussion based. I let the kids get me off on a couple of bunny trails talking about random things, which wasn’t good from a teacher’s perspective. It made me smile, though as I remembered back to when my class used to try to do that to our teachers (we still do with our professors sometimes!:) Today I also started my language unit on research. I was observed by one of the other teachers, so I was a little nervous, but overall it went well.
The last 2 days, I’ve been exhausted by the time 3:00 comes around. It’s amazing how teachers do this everyday!! I’m glad I got ahead on planning over break because I really don’t feel like planning much at the end of the day.
