This morning as I walked in the gate, I was greeted with a bow and an enthusiastic, “Good morning, teacher!” by four students from the Chinese school who had been specially appointed for the job. It was so cute and a great way to start the day! This morning we played, “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?” The class had to answer questions from 1st to 5th grade level, and by the end it was clear that my fifth graders are indeed “smarter than a fifth grader.” (and smarter than me on some of the questions, but I didn’t let them know that!)
My knowledge has definitely been tested this week as I’ve been teaching math and science. I’ve really enjoyed both of them, which is surprising. Math has never been a strong point for me! I’ve been teaching geometry, though, and am learning a lot and having fun with it.
Science has been going really well this week. I’ve been enjoying discussing astronomy with them. Each lesson I show them a “Hubble photo of the day.” Mr. Pye found this one online for me:

He shared it with some of the other teachers as a sample of what I’ve been teaching the class. What can I say? The kids liked it!
I might not be writing on here much next week because I’ll be slightly preoccupied. In just 26 hours, my amazing fiancé will be here in Kunming for the week! I’ll be sure to post pictures and stories when I get around to it. :)
